The road win helped boost the Bobcats into the 2006 FCS Playoffs
A look at Bobcat football history day by day...
October 21
SPOTLIGHT: Montana State's 2006 season was an amazing roller coaster ride. It began with a win at Colorado followed by a home loss to Chadron State. It ended with the program's first playoff win since 1984 and a closer-than-it-looked loss at No. 1 Appalachian State. And in between there was a scintilating six-game win streak which included five victories decided by no more than one score.
Amidst that hot spell was a 42-35 win at Idaho State that marked the Bobcats' high-water scoring mark of 2006.
In the middle of all that scoring was senior receiver Mike Jefferson, a transfer from Arizona. Jefferson touched the ball nine times in his only Holt Arena appearance, turning five of them into touchdowns. He rang up 305 all-purpose yards, a school record, with receiving yards. He caught a 70-yard pass, and scored on a 50-yard run.
The Bobcats never really had the game comfortably in hand until ISU's on-side kick with seven seconds remaining sailed out of bounds, but it was an amazing day for the MSU offense. The Cats netted only 14 first downs, and ran a pedestrian 52 plays from scrimmage. Yet, the team averaged 8.4 yards a play. Jefferson's amazing day played a big role, of course, but Aaron Mason also ran for 69 yards. Safety Ryan Force, also the team's punter, pinned ISU inside the 20 on four of his eight boots, and Clive Lowe's nine tackles included a sack, and another half-tackle for loss.
