Bobcat Alpine Squad Keeps Momentum Going at DU Invite

A pair of Montana State skiers reached the podium on the opening day of the Denver Invitational on Saturday at Aspen Highlands Resort.
ASPEN, Colo. – A pair of Montana State skiers reached the podium on the opening day of the Denver Invitational on Saturday at Aspen Highlands Resort. Haley Cutler finished runner-up in the giant slalom, while Aage Solheim placed third in the men's race.
Cutler, a junior from Sun Valley, Idaho, had a solid opening run, the second fastest with a clocking 1:00.30. Her two-run total was 2:05.10, just behind Mikaela Tommy of Colorado, who posted a time of 2:04.02.
Also contributing for the MSU women were Nellie Talbot, 8th, 2:05.94 and Tegan Wold, 25th, 2:13.26. Cecily Decker did not finish her first run, while Trixie Lever did not complete her second race.
Sophomore Aage Solheim led the Bobcat men finishing third with a two-run total of 2:08.11. The Staarheim, Norway native led after the opening run after recording a time of 57.92.
Also producing results for MSU were Louis Muhlen-Schulte, 10th, 2:10.40, Patrick Carry, 13th, 2:10.96; and Zak Vinter, 25th, 2:12.48.
Denver's Tobias Kogler won the event in 2:07.87.
"We had a great start to the season," said MSU Alpine Head Coach Kevin Francis. "Haley and Aage are showing they have the right stuff to consistently score great results. This early in the season, two on the podium in one day is fantastic. And, we are third as a team which is a testament to the competitiveness of the whole team."
Utah sits atop the team standings after two events with 176 points. The Utes are followed by Colorado 153, MSU 145, Westminster 134, Denver 129, Alaska Anchorage 100 and Colorado Mountain College 71.
MSU's alpine contingent will continue at the DU Invite with the slalom races on Sunday.
