Montana State's senior punter excels in the classroom while contributing in the community
Here's a look at Bobcat Football players in the classroom and the community…Jered Padmos is MSU's nominee for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy as the top student-athlete in college football. He maintains a grade point average of 3.78 (on a 4.0 scale), and has been extremely active in community service activities, both through Bobcat Athletics and on his own. His commitment to involvement began many years ago. As a punter Padmos has been brilliant at limiting opponent returns, and MSU has been among the nation's net punting leaders during his time. He uses conventional sky punts as well as rugby-style roll punts.

Five Questions
1) What drew you to education? "Starting in middle school I started volunteering in kindergarten classroom and the nin high school over the summer I worked at a summer program called Montana City Kids. I've enjoyed working with kids so much, and basically they've taught me more than I can help them. It's broadened my view of things. In high school I remember BJ always saying, 'If you enjoy what you do you don't work a day in your life.' That's why I leaned toward elementary ed, and have continued that way."
2) What has drawn you to community service? "Working with kids has always given me the idea, What else can you do? It's also giving back. I've been so fortunate to have things work out in my life that I want to give back to other people, especially children, and help the community as well."
3) You play for a coach who was a teacher, and who remains a teacher at heart. What has playing for Jeff Choate been like for an education major? "It's been an unreal experience, learning from him. He teaches us the game of football and also the game of life, and I feel like a lot of players move into the coaching profession and that's what I want to do, teach and also coach."
4) How do you decide during a what type of punt you'll utilize? "We'll game plan to the team, what works for that week. Formation-wise we try to stay the same for all the punts, and we try to stay consistent with all the punts. We have all the punts in the game plan each week, just the formations change, but it kind of depends on the elements, what we feel comfortable doing, and also how I'm feeling comfortable kicking the ball. It also changes based on the looks (the return) team is giving us. If we have a short returner we'll try to put it over his head, if we have a deep returner we'll try to put it on the ground and roll it away from him. It's an on-going conversation (during the game)."
