Alex Singleton was a brilliant player for Calgary, and Harvey Wylie was the Calgary Comet
JULY 1: Happy Canada Day! We revive our look at Montana State's all-time Bobcats today with a look at two players with strong ties to Canada. Harvey Wylie, the Calgary Comet, came to Montana State from Calgary, while Alex Singleton headed north after a brilliant Bobcat career to play professionally in Canada. Each day until Montana State's 2019 season opener the staff of Bobcats By The Numbers will offer a look at one of the players to make one of the school's all-time teams, in alphabetical order. On November 21, 1933, The Exponent announced 37 players selected by a panel of former players and coaches, divided into three teams that comprised Montana State's "mythical" all-time team. In 1969, the Billings Gazette's Norm Clarke conducted a poll to select the school's all-time team, and again in 2000 Bobcat Athletics and the Billings Gazette selected a third all-time team. The BBTN staff added players from the 21st century.
Alex Singleton, LB, 2011-14

HONORS: 2014 3rd Team All-America and 1st Team All-Big Sky
A CLOSER LOOK: Alex Singleton was the friendliest guy you could find, unless you were carrying a football. He capped a brilliant career with All-Big Sky and 3rd Team All-America honors in 2014, rolling up a team-high 136 tackles. He also led the team in tackles as a junior, with 110. It's easy to play what-if games with Alex's career, because he burned his redshirt season in the midst of 2011. Yet flags fly forever, and his presence on kick teams helped boost the Bobcats to a conference crown that year and the next, when he rotated in at linebacker.He finished his career with 175 career tackles, 37.5 for a loss. Singleton landed CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player honors in 2017 and led Calgary to a Grey Cup title in 2018 before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles entering the 2019 season.

A CLOSER LOOK: The "Calgary Comet" was described by many outlets in the 1950s as one of Montana State's most colorful players ever. A halfback who also kicked field goals and extra points, he became the first Bobcat in history to score 100 points in a season as a junior in 1954. He was a standout second baseman on the Bobcat baseball team, and was inducted into both the Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame and the CFL Hall of Fame after a sensation professional career in his hometown of Calgary.
