ALL-TIME BOBCATS: Brad Daly
6/10/2019 3:00:00 PM | Football
Montana State's second straight Buck Buchanan winner, Brad Daly had a year for the ages in 2013
JUNE 10: Each day until Montana State's 2019 season opener the staff of Bobcats By The Numbers will offer a look at one of the players to make one of the school's all-time teams, in alphabetical order. On November 21, 1933, The Exponent announced 37 players selected by a panel of former players and coaches, divided into three teams that comprised Montana State's "mythical" all-time team. In 1969, the Billings Gazette's Norm Clarke conducted a poll to select the school's all-time team, and again in 2000 Bobcat Athletics and the Billings Gazette selected a third all-time team. The BBTN staff added players from the 21st century.
Brad Daly, DE, 2009, 11-13
ALL-TIME TEAM: 21st Century Addition
HONORS: Buck Buchanan Award, 1st Team All-America, 1st Team All-Big Sky 2013; 2nd Team All-Big Sky 2012.
A CLOSER LOOK: While his brother Bobby always seemed in control during his brilliant Bobcat career, Brad Daly seemed in the early years to be searching. He bridled against his position, linebacker, and left school in 2010. He cost himself a championship ring, but in the process and by his own admission got his feet on the ground and figured some things out. So did the coaching staff, moving him to defensive end. As a pass rush specialist in 2011 he logged 12.5 sacks, and a year later rolled up 5.5 sacks but was highly impactful playing opposite Caleb Schreibeis. And then came his senior season, when Daly posted one of the best seasons in school history. He logged 20.5 tackles-for-loss, 14 sacks, blocked two kicks, and forced two fumbles. He won the Buck Buchanan Award as the FCS' top defensive player and was MSU's second straight Big Sky Defensive MVP and third in five years. Like his brother and father before him, Brad Daly was also elected a Bobcat team captain.
