BOBCATS BY THE NUMBERS: 98 Days Until the Cats Kick Off in Lubbock

Newcomer Ethan Bullock occupies #98 in 2019
May 25: In addition to a quick look at players wearing the jersey number corresponding to the number of days remaining until Montana State's season opener at Texas Tech, Bobcats by the Numbers brings you another tidbit or two aligning with that number.
#98
Ethan Bullock, DT: Big Timber's Ethan Bullock joins the Bobcats as a rangy, athletic defensive lineman. Bullock earned all-state honors twice in football, and and helped lead the Herders to leagues titles in basketball as a junior and football as a senior.
98 – The first truly spectacular play in Bobcat football history came on December 4, 1897, on Butler Grounds near the Montana State campus. The fourth game in school history (the College had previously lost to Butte High and the University in Missoula, but entered the season finale fresh off a victory over Helena High) brought Butte High to Bozeman for an anticipated rematch. Early in the second half, Butte advanced the ball to near the College's goal line when the high school team fumbled and Montana State's Boyles recovered on approximately the two-yard line. On the next play, Seyler took off on what was described in the December, 1897 Exponent as a sweep to the left, and we'll let the unnamed student reporter paint the picture: "Seyler then made a run through left end, and with the good interference of C. Flaherty and Moore, and was allowed a clear field to run through. This was the play of the season and could not be done once in a thousand times. A longer run could scarcely be made, for when the ball was passed from the full back to the quarter back it was outside the end line. This was rather a surprise to the Butte boys, as they had held their own until this time. Time was called before the ball was kicked off again, and so the final score was 16 to 6 in favor of the High School."
Chronology: Bart McCool (1980-83), Kip Halvorson (1984-86), Monty Peretto (1988-92), Jamie Roark (1993-94), Alex Silicz (1995-99), Beau Clark (2000-04), Matt Peebles (2005-06), Casey Dennehy (2007), Christian Keli'i (2008-11), Kris Cooper (2012), Luke Halliburton (2012-13), Riley Griffiths (2015), Austin Barrette (2016), Elu Leota (2017), Ethan Bullock (2019-)
