BOBCATS BY THE NUMBERS: 100 Days from Kickoff, We Look at the Few 100-Yard Plays in MSU History
5/23/2019 3:00:00 PM | Football
MSU's most recent 100-yard play was a Logan Jones kick return in 2015
May 23: In addition to a quick look at players wearing the jersey number corresponding to the number of days remaining until Montana State's season opener at Texas Tech, Bobcats by the Numbers brings you another tidbit or two aligning with that number.
100 – Even though no player at Montana State – or anywhere – has worn jersey number 100, we will use this as a jumping off point into Bobcats by the Numbers for 2019. BBTN will change formats just a bit, transitioning from profiles of past Bobcats to a look at the numbers that comprise the history of Montana State football. An example follows, and we'll begin tomorrow with a look at MSU's current #99, a list of all the players on record who have worn that number, and a tidbit or two.
The number 100 is one of the most significant in football, signifying not only the yards in a regulation length football field, but a milestone in terms of rushing and receiving yards in a game. Four Bobcats have returned kickoffs 100 yards, a record that can be tied but never broken under current statistical guidelines (all returns that begin in an opposite end zone official begin at the goal line). Most recently, Logan Jones returned a kickoff 100 yards at Portland State in 2015. Shawn Johnson (2013 vs. NAU), Demetrius Crawford (2008 at Minnesota), and Harvey Wylie (1954) also turned that trick. Only Rob Pouliot (vs. Boise State in 1988) has returned an interception 100 yards.
No one: Since triple-digit numbers are not allowed, no Bobcat has ever worn #100.
Chronology: none
