BOBCAT FOOTBALL IN THE 2010s: The Defensive Line

From Buchanan Award winners to nose tackles who toiled anonymously, MSU has produced great D-Lines and D-Linemen
Rather than ranking the top Bobcat football players, games, and other moments from the decade that's coming to a close, let's take a look back position group by position group, and all that the 2010s brought Bobcat fans. It was quite a decade!
DEFENSIVE LINE
Characters and character. That would be the best way to describe those who populated Montana State's defensive line in the 2010s.
The decade began with Dustin O'Connell, whose teammates called him the funniest guy they knew, and Dan Ogden, who could often be seen carrying a boom box through the Fieldhouse on his shoulder looking like something straight out of the 1980s. It ended with the irreverence of Marcus Ferriter, nicknamed Satch for his love of Louis Armstrong, and Tucker Yates. And in between there were so many tremendous, smart, high-integrity people that to start a list would only ensure that you'd miss someone.
Early in the decade Caleb Schreibeis and Brad Daly won back-to-back Buck Buchanan Awards, and as two of the greatest defensive ends in Big Sky history they flanked All-America interior linemen such as Ogden and Zach Minter. Hard-working lunch pail guys such as Craig Ashworth and Taylor Dees, singular talents such as Tyrone Fa'anono and Bryce Sterk, Treasure State staples and out-of-state transplants that brought great honor to the Bobcat program, so many individuals thrived in this position group during the decade just closed. Odin Coe walked away from his final season of college football for the opportunity to join the Navy SEALS.
Amazingly, Montana State's defensive line has been coached by only two coaches led this group in the past decade – in fact, in the past 13 seasons. Bo Beck was a staple of Rob Ash's coaching staff from start to finish, producing productive groups and brilliant players with an us-against-the-world mentality. The coaching transition brought Byron Hout to the Bobcat program, an excellent technical coach who personifies the ethos of much work and little talk.
