A look at Montana State's matchup with UC Davis through the eyes of Bobcat coaches and players
A look at Montana State football through the thoughts of Bobcat coaches and players….
Head Coach Jeff Choate
On UC Davis' front seven: "Defensively it starts up front for them. I think the interior of their defensive line is one of the strengths of their team. Active, big bodies, they have a nose (Josiah Suani) that's listed at 329 lbs, so they've got some guys that are hard to move on the interior of their defensive line and they complement that with some excellent payers on the perimeter. They have some of the better pass rushers (in the Big Sky). I'd say Sac State and these guys have the best pass rush group that I've seen on tape, and that says a lot. (Nick Eaton), their Sam linebacker, moves around a little bit, I think he was the conference defensive player of the week, and I love the way this kid plays. He plays with juice, energy, plays hard, physical kid, and he runs well. (Devon King) is a dangerous corner, kind of a ballhawk, creates a lot of turnovers, and a guy that you need to be aware of when you're throwing the football."
Tackle Mitch Brott
On his 45-game streak of starts:"My body, I definitely can feel that I've played 45 straight games, but for the most part it's about luck. I've been lucky to survive without any major injuries. Coach Choate always preaches body maintenance. We stay up on our stretching, do a good job of warming up, it's about paying attention to the details. That really helps staying healthy. (The streak) is cool, individual accolades, but it's a team sport and my goal is to get a (championship) ring on my finger."
Safety JoJo Henderson
On what stands out about UC Davis' offense: "The amount of weapons they have – the leading rusher in the conference, a former offensive player of the year, the quarterback, no Keelan Doss (at receiver) but three guys that he can get the ball to and produce just as well. We have to be on point, run game, pass game, all of it. (Quarterback Jake Maier's) decision-making, he's a fifth-year senior and he's going to find the matchup he wants, the matchup that favors him and his guys, so that heightens everyone in the back end that the ball could come at you. Even if his guy is covered he throws guys open a lot."
Defensive End Bryce Sterk
On Cal Poly: "They have a great offense. Their quarterback is really good, he throws the ball really, really well. He's got great receivers and a great tight end, and their running back is the leading rusher in the conference… We're definitely going to have our hands full, and this is definitely a good football team. It's scary when a team has a record like (5-5) that doesn't represent them."
