Five Questions
1) What drew you to education? "A recruiter hit me up my sophomore year, and then my junior year going into the spring I hit them back up on LinkedIn and scored an interview. It went well, I ended up getting a second interview, and they liked me and my pitch for why me. I started interning and I did well over the summer, and I got invited to the top intern conference in September. I wasn't able to go because of football."
2) What has drawn you to community service? "I'm an intern for Northwestern Mutual. James Kaiser is my mentor, he's the guy who I have meetings with. We set goal, he educates me on pieces (of the business), and I work with a number of advisers."
3) You play for a coach who was a teacher, and who remains a teacher at heart. What has playing for Jeff Choate been like for an education major? "It has a lot to do with life insurance, disability insurance, and we do a lot with retirement planning. It's the whole picture of making somebody financially secure all the way up to retirement. I'm learning long-term care, working with low-income and high-income (people) and how taxes change, things of that nature."
4) How do you decide during a what type of punt you'll utilize? "I want deal with people, so that (pushes) me to certain jobs, like teaching or coaching or advising. I like math, numbers, dealing with money, so while looking at things to do, and I looked into financial advising, whether it was corporate side or personal side, I just wanted to see what it was so I wanted to give this internship a try. I didn't really know too much about it, but out there doing it over the summer I liked it a lot and they offered me a full-time position after I graduate.
5) Have any particular professors impacted you the most: "All of my professors have been great, understanding financials, things like that."
