Veteran assistant coach to pursue other professional opportunities
BOZEMAN, Montana – January's college football coaching carousel has left plenty of work for Jeff Choate in the first month of 2019. Montana State's fourth-year head coach announced that defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Ty Gregorak and secondary coach Mark Orphey have resigned to pursue other professional opportunities.
Gregorak completed his third season coordinating MSU's defense, his second as linebackers coach, in 2018. A Spokane native and University of Colorado graduate, Gregorak previously coached at Montana (2003-09, 2011-15), Central Washington (2010), and Washington (graduate assistant, 2001-02). Orphey coached Bobcat defensive backs the past two seasons, coming to MSU after four seasons as a graduate assistant (2014-16) and quality control specialist (2013) at South Carolina. He previously coached at Texas Southern (2011-12), where he was an all-conference cornerback, in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
Choate indicated that he has begun the process of filling his defensive staff.
