Cats Finish Two Invitationals in One Day

The Montana State ski team finished two invitationals in one day. The Bobcats placed fourth at the Colorado Invitational and fifth in its own MSU Invitational on Saturday morning at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State ski team finished two invitationals in one day. The Bobcats placed fourth at the Colorado Invitational and fifth in its own MSU Invitational on Saturday morning at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
Skiing a make-up men's slalom from last weekend's CU Invitational due to poor race conditions, Bobcat freshman Louis Muhlen-Schulte made the most of the opportunity winning the slalom title with a two-run total of 1:44.97. His 49.57 first run was the fastest of the day and set the tone for any challengers.
Also producing points for the Bobcats were Zak Vinter, seventh, 1:45.96, and Patrick Carry, 16th, 1:47.37.
Åge Solheim, Florian Szwebel and Morten Bakke all came up short in completing two runs.
Utah won the CU Invitational with 663 points, followed by Denver 548, CU 515.5, MSU 501, Alaska Anchorage 478, New Mexico 442.5, Alaska Fairbanks 200, Westminster 211, Wyoming 105 and Colorado Mountain 68.
And, while the CU meet was finishing on Deer Park, the conclusion of the MSU Invitational was taking place a mile up the road at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center with the mass start Nordic classic races.
MSU's top time in classic came from freshman Ty Godfrey. The product of Canmore, Alberta covered the 20-kilometer course in 1:05.21. He was followed in scoring by Ti Donaldson, 21st, 1:07.40, and Eli Jensen, 28th, 1:09.54. Senior Karsten Hokanson finished 29th overall in 1:10.06.
The Bobcats women's Nordic contingent was paced by Emma Tarbath. The junior from Anchorage, Alaska finished 15th covering the 15K course in 57:00.0. She was followed by Kathleen O'Connell, 16th, 57:18.0, Anna Fake, 19th, 57:54.0, and Kelly Koch, 25th, 1:00.41.
CU won the MSU Invitational with 587 points, followed by Utah 583, New Mexico 569, Denver 502.5, MSU 464, Alaska Anchorage 458, Westminster 205.5, Alaska Fairbanks 199 and Colorado Mountain 31.
The Bobcats will take next week off, before traveling to the New Mexico Invitational on Feb. 1.
