BOZEMAN, Mont. – Alpine and Nordic ski fans can see the best collegiate racers in the country when Montana State hosts its annual MSU Invitational this week at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
The MSU Invitational will begin on Wednesday with the giant slalom races on the Deer Park run. The women's first run begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men's first run at 11 a.m. The invitational will take a brief hiatus on Thursday as racers will compete in a NCAA giant slalom qualifier. Slalom races will conclude the alpine portion of the invitational on Friday.
"Home hill, home snow," said MSU Alpine head coach Kevin Francis. "It's going to be exciting to watch. Intensity will be extremely high with all teams going for it and firing on all cylinders. We're just finding our form. We'll be looking for some big results this week."
Nordic races begin on Friday with the 5/10-kilometer freestyle events at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center. The women begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men at 11 a.m. Saturday's 15/20K classic races begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women, followed by the men at 10:45 a.m. The classic races will feature a mass start.
Saturday will also see the conclusion of the Colorado Invitational at Bridger Bowl. The men's slalom race was postponed due to poor racing conditions last weekend in Steamboat Springs.
Utah currently sits atop the CU Invitational, which is the first Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association event of the season. The Utes, who posted 602 points last weekend, are followed by Denver 517, Colorado 457.5, Alaska-Anchorage 432, MSU 421, New Mexico 358.5, Alaska Fairbanks 200, Westminster 138, Wyoming 105 and Colorado Mountain 38.
