Ryan Davis carries on his family's tradition at Montana State
July 13: Bobcats by the Numbers takes a look at current and past Bobcats whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days remaining before Montana State opens the 2018 football season against Western Illinois in Bobcat Stadium's annual Gold Rush game on August 30.

Ryan Davis, TE: A funny thing happened to Ryan Davis on his way to a redshirt season at MSU – he was too valuable for it. The Billings Skyview product – and famously, a Bobcat legacy – was so impressive that he was activated to the varsity after five games, and immediately contributed on special teams. The son of Doug, a one-time Bobcat gridder, and Debbie Davis, Ryan's brother Leo was a star for the Cats, another brother, Matt, played for MSU, and Steven was a Bobcat basketball player. The best moment of Ryan's freshman season came in MSU's win over the Grizzlies, when he logged a couple of tackles on kick teams.
Spotlight – Neal Smith: In a program that took pride in defense and produced many, many brilliant players on that side of the ball, Neal Smith stands out. During his senior season, 1997, he rolled up 19 sacks, eighth-most in MSU history until that point, making three other tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He logged All-America and First Team All-Big Sky honors, and finished his career with 35.5 sacks, second-most in Montana State history.
