Bobcat linebacker earns state's top award for amateur athletics

BOZEMAN, Montana – For the seventh time in the last eight years, a Montana State Bobcat has landed one of Montana's Little Sullivan Award as the state's top amateur athlete.
Mac Bignell, an all-conference Bobcat linebacker from Drummond, landed top honors at Montana AAU's annual banquet in Helena on Saturday. Taylor Mims, a Billings Senior grad who plays volleyball at Washington State, was named the women's winner. Bignell earned All-Big Sky honors as a senior and has been invited to the rookie mini-camp of the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles this week.
The latest in a long line of brilliant Bignells on the Bobcat football roster, Mac Bignell set a Bobcat record for forced fumbles with nine. He also led MSU with 93 tackles, 14.5 for a loss, this season. He logged his first career interception in his final game, a 31-23 win over the Grizzlies in Bobcat Stadium. That marked his second straight win over MSU's arch-rival. Bignell's father Joe was an All-America for the Cats, brothers Nate and Parker and cousins Clay and Brian Bignell also played football at MSU.
The Little Sullivan is a prestigious addition to Bignell's list of honors. He was MSU's Bill Kollar Defensive MVP in 2017, was the Big Sky Player of the Week for his performance against Montana, and was Second Team All-Big Sky a year ago.

The Montana AAU has presented the Little Sullivan Awards to Montana athletes since 1955. Kyle Douglass of Missoula, a thrower on the Bobcat track and field squad, was also a finalist.
