Bobcat by the Numbers takes a look at current and past Bobcats whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days remaining before Montana State opens the 2018 football season against Western Illinois in Bobcat Stadium's annual Gold Rush game on August 30.

Spotlight: If ever a book were written about family connections through the history of Bobcat football, the Bignells would receive at least a chapter. One of the true characters of the Montana State program during his time, Brian Bignell emerged as a key defensive piece of two Big Sky title teams. Playing in the shadow of his brother Clay early in his career, and of future Buck Buchanan winners Caleb Schreibeis and Brad Daly in the last couple of years, Brian Bignell carved out a niche on MSU's pass rush packages. After spending his first three years at MSU either redshirting or injured, Bignell logged two sacks as a junior, including a half-sack in the home playoff win over New Hampshire. As a senior he added five more, and two other tackles-for-loss. Brian Bignell never strayed far from his strongly-held beliefs, the animal science major even eschewing breakfast burritos because they features 'too many vegetables,' and he didn't stray far from his bloodlines, either. It was completely appropriate that in his last regular season game in the Blue and Gold, Bignell logged a key tackle-for-loss late in Montana State's championship-clinching win in Missoula.
