Driller Wins Slalom Title to Guide Bobcats at New Mexico Invitational

Bobcat senior Garret Driller used an outstanding second run to win the slalom title at the University of New Mexico Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Bobcat senior Garret Driller used an outstanding second run to win the slalom title at the University of New Mexico Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The product of Tahoe City, Calif., posted a 44.48 clocking in his second run moving up from third to claim the title. Driller recorded a two-run total of 1:29.06, just ahead of runner-up Tobias Kogler of Denver, who registered 1:29.22.

Also recording points for MSU were Addison Dvoracek, 12^th, 1:30.34, and Pat Carry, 20^th, 1:32.26. Jeffrey Bell finished 25^th-overall in 1:34.05, while Morten Bakke did not complete his second run.

The MSU women put two racers in the top 10 paced by Jocelyn McCarthy. McCarthy, who finished fourth in slalom on Saturday, put together a time of 1:35.86 for sixth place. She was followed closely by teammate Kari Hole in seventh with a 1:36.07. Stephanie Gartner completed MSU's scoring finishing 13^th in 1:36.72. Benni Lyche placed 14^th-overall in 1:36.77, while Mia Henry did not finish her opening run.

The Bobcat Nordic team competed in Crested Butte, Colorado due to lack of snow in New Mexico.

Anna Fake led the Bobcats placing seventh, covering the five-kilometer classic course in 15:58.7. It was her best finish of the season. Also recording points were Emma Tarbath, eighth, 15:59.9, and Jordi Floyd, 13^th, 16:58.8.

The Montana State men's contingent was paced in the 5-km classic by Erik Axelsson, who placed 11^th in a 13:29.1. Karsten Hokanson, 13^th, 13:42.1, and Eli Jensen, 14^th, 13:45.8, also produced points for the Bobcats.

Noah Andersen, 22^nd, 14:06.9, and Martin Muan, 24^th, 14:19.2, rounded out MSU's participants.

Colorado captured the New Mexico Invitational team title with 652 points. The Buffaloes were followed by DU 645.5, Utah 547.5, UNM 537, MSU 527.5, Alaska Anchorage 351.5, Westminster 203, Wyoming 135, and Colorado Mountain College 43.

The Bobcats will compete at the Denver Invitational next weekend at Loveland Park and Maloit Park in Colorado, beginning on Friday.
