Don Hass' historic effort against the Wildcats at Gatton Field almost didn't happen
We look at some of the historic and dramatic moments in Bobcat football history each week in the Bobcat History Lesson.
Montana State vs. Weber State
All-Time Series: 30-22-1
In Bozeman: 15-10-1
At Opponent: 15-12
Neutral Site:
Streaks and Stuff
Montana State's 15 wins in Stewart Stadium is the most by the Cats in any opponent stadium.
Here's a Good Story
Since 1965 – when records became available – a Bobcat has rushed for at least 100 yards in a game on 31 occasions, the most against any single MSU opponent (Idaho State has been victimized 22 times, Montana 21). The most impressive performance came in 1967, when the legendary Iron Tumbleweed Don Hass mashed the Wildcats for a school record 298 yards. What ended in a spectacular, dominant performance began with a bad feeling. Hass told the teammate who was driving him to the game that morning, "I don't think I'll play today." He explained, "I just don't feel right." Whatever the right feeling was, Weber State certainly wishes he hadn't found it before kickoff. Hass finished that senior season as an All-America and one of the most productive backs in America, gaining 1,245 yards in 10 games.
Memory
One of Montana State's most memorable games in Stewart Stadium came on September 8, 2001, when the Cats snapped a 16-game losing streak with a 32-17 win over Weber State. Ryan Johnson rambled for 243 yards – still the third-best day in MSU history – and Junior Adams returned a punt for a touchdown and caught a scoring strike as MSU got its first taste of winning since late in 1999.
