Mitchell Herbert Receives FCS ADA Academic All-Star Award

Bobcat receiver adds to impressive list of academic honors
Montana State senior Mitchell Herbert earned a spot on the 2017 FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star team, the organization announced.
The award adds to an impressive resume for Herbert, who was also named CoSIDA Academic All-America. He capped an outstanding Bobcat career by leading MSU with 41 catches, 497 receiving yards, and five touchdown catches as a senior captain in 2017. He stands second in school history in career touchdown receptions and fifth in receiving yards.
The Eugene, Oregon, product maintained a cumulative grade point average of nearly 3.9 throughout his time at Montana State as a cell biology and neuroscience major. He has also been among Bobcat Athletics' top student-athletes in community service activities, serving as the University Student-Athlete Advisory Council's President and contributing time to Bozeman's Child Advancement Project and Montana Special Olympics.
Herbert was one of 50 players from the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision named to the team, which features just five Big Sky Conference players. Herbert is joined by Eastern Washington's Spencer Blackburn, Southern Utah's Taylor Nelson and Mike Needham, and Weber State's Andrew Vollert. To earn recognition, student-athletes needed grade point averages of at least 3.20 in his second year of athletic eligibility and academic standing at his current institution as a starter or important reserve having played in at least half his team's games.
