Our Heritage - Our Future
Our Heritage - Our Future.
When we began the strategic planning process, we set out to create a bold vision for MSU Athletics – a set of benchmarks and guidelines to help us achieve our goals and objectives. The purpose of this strategic plan is to provide a roadmap for our internal operations; who we are, who we aspire to be, and how we get there.
Yesterday, we released our plan which includes seven strategic themes that will set the course for Bobcat Athletics now and for years to come. The entire plan can be read here: MSU Athletics Strategic Plan . I encourage you to review the plan and provide feedback to assist in our planning efforts.
All seven strategic themes are essential because we have a responsibility not only to those on our campus, but to all stakeholders of Montana State University. These themes are vital to our success and play a major role in providing resources to support our athletic programs. They also enable us to create positive and memorable experiences for student-athletes, alumni, and all Bobcat supporters.
I've been encouraged by the progress that has already been made. Our focus on the student- athlete experience is evident. We have hired a Registered Dietician and implemented a fueling station for our student-athletes' nutritional needs. We have collaborated with health professionals on campus to create a mental health handbook to assist our student-athletes in need. We have also seen our performance in the classroom and competition improve. Our student-athlete cumulative GPA reached an all-time high of 3.18 and our athletic success was capped by championship performances by women's basketball, national champion Benni Lyche (Women's Alpine Skiing) and All-American Alyssa Snyder (Women's Track and Field).
With that being said, this plan would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of many people. I would like to thank our consultants, CarrSports, along with Bobcat student-athletes, coaches, staff and University leadership for their time and effort in making this a reality. The collaborative spirit of MSU is contagious and is what makes these projects possible.
So, what's next? We will continue to implement strategies that enable us to meet the goals in the strategic plan. This work is ongoing and will continue to be at the forefront of all we do. We aspire to give our student-athletes and coaches the resources to be successful in the classroom, competition, and life. This plan allows us to do just that.
Significant progress is also being made on the Athletics' Facility Master Plan. A&E Architecture, Crawford Architects, and our campus planning committee continue their efforts to provide a championship quality facilities plan for our sports programs. This plan will be unveiled later this summer and will fit within the new strategic plan under Strategic Theme 3: Championship Quality Facilities.
I continue to be excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for Bobcat Athletics. These plans focus our efforts to continue to set our athletic programs apart from our competition. There is a lot of work to be done and we have the team to get it accomplished. Thank you for your continued support and Go Cats!
