The Montana State women's tennis team remained undefeated in Big Sky Conference play, running its league record to 5-0 with a 5-2 decision over Idaho State, Sunday morning in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Idaho State opened the contest winning the doubles point. The Bengals dropped a 6-1 decision to MSU's Jessica Brycki and Naomi Holopainen at No. 2 doubles, before rebounding with victories at Nos. 1 and 3.
"We put ourselves in a rough situation by losing the doubles point," said Bobcat freshman Chloe Goyette. "But, the team came together to rally five singles victories against a tough Idaho State team."
Goyette, a product of Yakima, Washington, quickly evened the match with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over Hristina Cvetkovic at the top spot. ISU took a 2-1 advantage winning at No. 3 singles, before Montana State (9-3, 5-0) rattled off four straight wins. Securing the match for MSU was Brycki, who recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win over Megan Poe at No. 5 singles.
"I am so proud to be a part of this team," Brycki said. "We have worked hard to get to this point and things are coming together nicely on court. Beginning the season 5-0 in conference gives us great momentum and confidence moving into the business end of the season."
MSU returns to action on April 7 against North Dakota in Grand Forks.
"It was a good win for our team," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "It took us a little bit to get on track, but when we got into the right competitive frame of mind we took control of matches."
