Andersen, Bignell Among Bobcats Awarded by Big Sky Conference

Mac Bignell earns First Team Honors and Troy Andersen is named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year the league announced Tuesday
OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced its Football All-Conference team and individual award winners for 2017 on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Montana State had nine athletes recognized in a selection by the league's 13 head coaches.
Senior Mac Bignell was Montana State's lone First Team selection. The linebacker from Drummond, Mont., played in all 11 games for the Bobcats. He led the team with 93 total tackles and 14.5 tackles for loss. He added 2.5 sacks on his resume to go along with an interception he returned for a touchdown against Idaho State on Oct. 28.
Troy Andersen, who was just recently named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Freshman of the Year Award, was selected as the Big Sky Conference's Freshman of the Year. Andersen played on both sides of the ball, as well as on special teams, for the Bobcats this season. He notched 515 rushing yards to go along with five touchdowns on the ground a touchdown reception. On defense, he had nine tackles and a sack for the Bobcats.
It is the second straight year a Bobcat has been garnered with the award, with quarterback Chris Murray picking up the Big Sky accolade following the 2016 season.
Senior Dylan Mahoney and sophomore Jered Padmos were chosen as Big Sky Second Team selections. Mahoney anchored the Bobcat offensive line at the left tackle position, while Padmos punted 39 times during the season for a 42.5-yard average. He had a long punt of 70 and pinned opponents on their side of the field with 16 of his punts falling inside the 20.
Senior Bryson McCabe was named to the Big Sky Third Team Defense. McCabe anchored a Montana State secondary by accumulating 87 tackles on the season – second highest on the team – while also breaking up a Bobcat-high 6 passes. He played in all 11 games for Montana State this year and also hauled in an interception.
Senior Mitchell Herbert, along with juniors Alex Neale, Zach Wright and Tucker Yates, made the Big Sky Honorable Mention list.
Herbert led the MSU receiving core with teams highs in receptions (41), yards receiving (497) and touchdown catches (5) this season. Neale helped anchor a strong production in the running game this season serving as the Bobcats' starting center. Wright played in all 11 games for the Bobcats at defensive end, racking up 35 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss. He also recorded two sacks and forced a fumble. Yates appeared in each Bobcat game this season on the interior of the MSU defensive line. Yates had 41 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, registered a sack and blocked a kick for the Bobcats.
Montana State wrapped up its 2017 season on Saturday, Nov. 18, by defeating the Montana Grizzlies, 31-23. It was the second-consecutive season the Bobcats have beat the Griz and first time MSU had achieved the feat at home since 2015.
