Bobcat Alpine Team Completes UAA Invite in Fourth Place

“The conditions were rugged,” said MSU alpine coach Kevin Francis. “There were ruts and holes in the course and the snow condition ranged from slush to ice. I’m proud of our kids for the confidence they showed all week. Everyone made a contribution.”
Four days and two invitationals later the Montana State alpine ski team heads home from Alaska sitting first in the Seawolf Invitational and fourth in the UAA Invite, Saturday following the giant slalom events at Alyeska Resort.
With the Seawolf Invitational behind them earlier in the week, the Bobcats turned their attention to the UAA meet the last two days. Saturday's giant slalom saw five Bobcats finish in the top 10, including all three scorers on the men's side.
Garret Driller placed sixth in 1:34.00, while Jeffrey Bell, ninth, 1:34.81, and David Neuhauser, tenth, 1:34.88 also scored for MSU. The women's team was paced by Stephanie Gartner, seventh, 1:37.49, and Kari Hole, eighth, 1:37.72.
On Friday, the Bobcat women's contingent had one of its best showings of the season in slalom, racking up 79 points as four racers finished in the top 10. MSU was paced by Benny Lyche, who finished fifth overall with a two-run total of 1:40.39.
Lyche was followed in the top 10 by Jocelyn McCarthy, sixth, 1:40.60, Mia Henry, eighth, 1:40.82, and Gartner, tenth, 1:41.10.
The Montana State men were led in slalom by Morten Bakke, seventh, 1:39.54, Addison Dvoracek, 14th, 1:41.72, and Bell, 23rd, 1:42.9.

The Bobcats sit in fourth place in the UAA Invitational team standings with 271 points. MSU trails Denver 319, Utah 318 and New Mexico 307.
The Nordic portion of both the Seawolf and UAA Invitationals begins on Feb. 7 at Kincaid Park.
