MSU’s Driller Wins Slalom Title; Bobcats Sit atop Seawolf Invite Standings

Montana State junior Garret Driller posted the fastest opening round and held on in the second run to win the slalom title at the Seawolf Invitational in 1:39.27, Friday afternoon in Anchorage, Alaska.
Another race, another champion.
Montana State junior Garret Driller posted the fastest opening round and held on in the second run to win the slalom title at the Seawolf Invitational in 1:39.27, Friday afternoon in Anchorage, Alaska.
On Wednesday, MSU freshman Addison Dvoracek won the giant slalom crown as four Bobcats placed in the top 10. After four events, Montana State sits in first place atop the team standings with 333 points. The Cats are followed by Utah 311, Denver 283, Colorado 274, New Mexico 234, Alaska Anchorage 190, Colorado Mountain College 56 and Westminster 29.
The Nordic portion of the Seawolf Invitational will be held next weekend.
Sophomore Morten Bakke also recorded his second top 10 finish of the week placing sixth overall with a two-run total of 1:41.35. Bakke had the fifth fastest second run. Rounding out MSU's scorers was David Neuhauser, 11th, 1:42.74. The Bobcat All-American was 19th after the first run, but rattled of the sixth fastest second race to move up eight spots.
Also finishing for the Bobcats were Patrick Carry, 20th, 1:46.11, and Dvoracek, 21st, 1:46.90. Jeffrey Bell did not finish his first run.
Not to be outdone, MSU junior Benedicte Lyche placed fourth in the women's slalom in 1:45.32 to guide three Bobcats in the top 10. The product Oslo, Norway was followed in scoring by Jocelyn McCarthy, eighth, 1:46.77, and Mia Henry, ninth, 1:47.51.
Elizabeth Koprucki, 15th, 1:52.81, and Kari Hole, 21st, 2:04.13 finished out MSU's racers. Stephanie Gartner did not finish her first run, while Tenaya Driller did not complete the second run.
The Bobcat alpine squad quickly turns its attention to the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational this weekend at Alyeska Resort.
