Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Sweeps Season-Opener

The Montana State women's tennis team opened its 2017 season sweeping three doubles matches, before taking all six singles matches, including five in straight sets, en route to a 7-0 win over Lewis Clark State, Friday afternoon.

Led by its top doubles tandem of Laura Middel and Naomi Holopainen the Bobcats dropped just five games. The MSU duo, who recorded a 17-5 overall record last season, dispatched of LC State's Lauren Lang and Kianna Arthur 6-3.

"It's exciting to get the season started," said MSU second-year head coach Jon Reeves. "I am proud of the preparation and effort our team gave. They left nothing in question and played with focus from start to finish."

In singles action, all four MSU seniors won in straight sets paced by Middel at the top spot. The product of Hoogezand, Netherlands defeated Lang 6-1, 6-3.

MSU will face regional power Washington State in Pullman on Saturday afternoon.

"We have a terrific opportunity tomorrow playing Washington State," Reeves added. "Coach Hart does a great job with her team and it is a match I highly anticipate each year. Our team needs to continue focusing on ourselves and what we can control. With that, we will increase our level of comfort during competition and we will see consistent improvements as a team."
