CATS IN CAMP DAY 2: Energy, Turnovers Both High on Sunday

MSU's defense struck back during MSU's second fall practice
The air horn was blowing on Sunday.
Ty Gregorak's famed noise-maker, which sounds whenever his defensive unit forces a turnover, sounded five times during Montana State's second practice of fall camp. That news was welcomed by defensive ears, and resulted in a challenge for the offense, Bobcat head coach Jeff Choate said after the two-and-a-half hour session.
"(The offense) had five turnovers today, and that's unacceptable," Choate said. "We've got to tighten that up. It's all about the ball here, so kudos to the defense for making that happen. They weren't quite to their quota yesterday of three so they wanted to get there today, and a lot of times those things happen. They come in bunches because that's the psychological thing you've got to push through. We challenged the offense after practice today on that, so it will be interesting to see how they (Monday) when we get into some red zone work."
Choate lauded his team for its energy during the first two practices, and looks forward to testing that element going forward. "I was just commenting to someone walking over here (who said), 'That was good,' and I said, 'Yeah? You think we can do it again tomorrow?' Even the great teams I've been on and been around have peaks and valleys. You're going to have that dip at some point. So I'm interested to see how consistent we can be, how consistently we can bring that energy."
The Bobcats don shoulder pads Monday and Tuesday, before entering the full-contact phase of fall camp on Wednesday. "Any coach in the country would say the same thing, it's hard to bring it every single day like that," Choate said. "I would guess our dip might come (Monday) or Tuesday when we're in shells, and we might get another spike Wednesday when we're in full pads. History says that's how it goes sometimes. We've got to really challenge these guys to improve (Monday) and Tuesday."
Monday's practice is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am on Dyche Field, the team's grass practice area.
