Jeff Choate welcomes 61 returners
In the hours before Jeff Choate's first appearance before his first fully-assembled football team as a head coach, it wasn't hard to figure out what he's most excited about.
"Tired of the meetings," he said, "tired of the (paperwork). Ready to get on the field."
That happened for the first time Saturday morning, when Choate entered the Bobcat practice at a near sprint, emphatically exhorting his players to do the same. "Do not walk on this grass," Choate yelled.
And with that, his first Bobcat fall camp was underway. The tone set by MSU's coaching staff throughout the spring fostered a vibrant, work-first energy that senior guard JP Flynn said, with a smile, "really makes football fun." Saturday's first practice began crisply.
Choate said that is by design, and will define his Bobcat program. "We'll work with a purpose."
The Bobcat program welcomed 95 student-athletes to camp on Monday. Of those, 61 were with the team during spring drills.
