Effective line play marks fifth practice
As Montana State's first extended live action of fall camp nears, Jeff Choate's attention narrowed on Wednesday. His team's first full-contact session of the fall found Choate focusing on the line of scrimmage.
"I thought those guys did a nice job up front," he said. "It was fun to watch them. It was that give-and-take. I thought Tucker Yates is a guy that's standing out to me right now on the defensive line as a guy that's really starting to assert himself in a leadership role and starting to play consistently solid. Tyrone (Fa'anono), it's good to have him back. I think that guy brings a lot of leadership to that group."
Choate also found things to like about the play of his offensive line. "On the offensive side we have some veteran guys," he said. "They're doing a nice job."
Wednesday was MSU's first day in full pads, but Choate said the difference wasn't great. "There really wasn't much of a difference between today and the last couple," he said. "The intensity's been good, the enthusiasm's been good."
Coupled with the emergence of full contact, Choate said the fifth practice of the fall adds more mileage on the bodies. "This is where you struggle a little bit," he said, "and it's where you separate the men from the boys. It gets to be a struggle right now, and it's about pushing through."
