Sophomore forward has been plagued by knee injury
Montana State men's basketball coach Brian Fish announced Monday that forward Quinn Price has retired from basketball due to a lingering knee injury, but remains on scholarship at the school.
"One of the things that makes Montana State University so great is that we take care of our own," Fish said. "It's sad that we've reached this conclusion together. I loved having Quinn on the team because of the kind of person he is, and when he was healthy he helped us as a player very early in his career."
A 6-9 product of Casa Grande, Ariz., Price tallied one rebound and two points per game in 23 contests as a freshman in 2014-15, but established his presence as a defensive force with 14 blocked shots and five steals that season. He played in just two games, starting one, as a sophomore this season due to the injury.
Fish indicated that Price plans to remain at MSU on a medical scholarship. "I'm glad that Quinn will finish has academic career at MSU," he said. "He's invested his time as a member of the SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and in other ways on campus, and he's a very popular kid. We tell students when we recruit them that regardless of what happens on the basketball court that a degree from this school will benefit them throughout their lives, and Quinn will be a great example of that."
