John Weidenaar moved less than 20 miles to get to the Bobcat program. Beau Sandland traveled the width and breadth of the nation. Yet the two begin their NFL journeys after tremendous careers at Montana State. Here is a closer look...
John Weidenaar at Montana State (2015) Started all 49 games in his Bobcat career, a program record... First Team All-Big Sky and Third Team All-America... anchored an offensive line that produced the top scoring season in school history. (2014) Started all 13 games at left tackle... has now started each of his games as a Bobcat... Third Team All-Big Sky. (2013) Started all 12 games at left tackle, raising his string of consecutive starts to begin his career to 25… Honorable Mention All-Big Sky. (2012) Started all 13 games at left tackle, one of only two freshmen among the top 25 FCS teams to fill such a role… named FCS National Freshman of the Week on October 15 for his effort against Eastern Washington. (2011) Redshirted.
High School A dominant player for Manhattan's Class B semifinal squad… registered 82 tackles, including 29 for a loss, and 10 sacks as a senior… first team all-state offensive and defensive lineman and punter, also earning all-conference honors… chosen for the Montana Shrine game.
Academics Graduated with a degree in ag business.
Personal Born John Weidenaar on September 15 in Bozeman… one of five children of Brian and Gail Weidenaar… his family operates a potato farm.
Beau Sandland at Montana State (2015) Second Team All-America and First Team All-Big Sky... started all 11 games for the Cats, catching 37 passes for team highs of 632 yards and nine touchdowns... two 100-yard receiving games, including 156 (and two TDs) vs. Cal Poly and 163 (also two TDs) against Montana... earned a D'Agostino Family Strength Award for his off-season work. (2014) Redshirted after transferring from Miami in August... Offensive Scout of the Week once.
Miami Played in all 13 games at tight end for the Hurricanes in 2013, his lone season in the program... logged special teams time... caught nine passes for 94 yards and one TD... season-high six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown against Savannah State... two catches for nine yards against South Florida, with a nine-yard catch at Florida State.
Pierce College Nation's top-rated junior college tight end in 2012, earning a four-star rating by ESPN, 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com... caught 24 passes for 267 yards as a sophomore in 2012 with three touchdowns... earned first team all-conference honors.
Academics Graduated with a sociology degree in December, 2015.
