Montana State Alpine and Nordic Ski Coaches Garner Top Honors

Montana State boasted both National Coaches of the Year as the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) handed out its annual awards on Thursday.
Montana State boasted both National Coaches of the Year as the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) handed out its annual awards on Thursday.
Kevin Francis, who just finished his third season as Montana State's Head Alpine Coach, was named the National Alpine Coach of the Year by his peers across the country. Francis, the two-time defending RMISA Alpine Coach of the Year, has consistently had his alpine skiers in top shape in the postseason.
At the NCAA Championships, Montana State stormed out to the lead, winning both the men's and women's GS races to hold the first-day lead, the first time MSU had led at any point in an NCAA Championship. The Bobcats had second and fourth place finishes in both races, with David Neuhauser and Benedicte Lyche taking runner up honors and Stephanie Gartner and Morten Bakke taking fourth. All four were named first-team All-Americans.
The squad added four more All-Americans in the slalom races with Neuhauser, Bakke and Garret Driller finishing just 11-hundredths of a second apart from each other with Neuhauser taking sixth place and Bakke and Driller tying for seventh. Jocelyn McCarthy earned second-team All-America honors in the women's slalom, meaning all six skiers in MSU's alpine contingent earned All-America honors.
Francs was joined by Matt Johnson, who along with Denver's Dave Stewart were named the co-Nordic National Coaches of the Year.
Johnson and the MSU Nordic squad fed off of the alpine's day one performance and continued the momentum through the second day. Anika Miller won the 5K freestyle race with Cambria McDermott taking fourth while Sawyer Kesselheim was fifth place in the men's 10K freestyle race, all earning first-team All-America honors.
On the final day, the Nordic squad enabled the Bobcats to finish in fourth place as Montana State took a trophy home from the NCAA Championships for the first time
