Bobcats Drop Two in Palouse to Open Tennis Season

The Montana State women’s tennis team opened its 2016 campaign dropping a pair of matches to PAC-12 power Washington State 7-0 and defending Big Sky Conference champion Idaho 5-2 over the weekend in Pullman, Washington.
The Montana State women's tennis team opened its 2016 campaign dropping a pair of matches to PAC-12 power Washington State 7-0 and defending Big Sky Conference champion Idaho 5-2 over the weekend in Pullman, Washington.
The Bobcats had its best outing of the weekend against Idaho in the conference opener for both schools. The Vandals entered the match picked No. 2 in the preseason coach's poll.
Montana State jumped out early winning the first points with victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. MSU's No. 2 tandem of Laura Middel and Naomi Holopainen clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Claire Yang and Rita Bermudez.
Idaho went ahead 2-1 with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, before Bobcat sophomore Angelina Philippova tied the score at the No. 4 spot, defeating Ana Batiri 6-1, 7-6(2). The Vandals closed out the match winning at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 singles.
Montana State will travel to Texas Arlington on Feb. 5.
