Seniors Sawyer Kesselheim and Cambria McDermott each paced their respective Nordic teams and helped the Montana State ski team move from fifth to fourth place in the MSU Invitational, Sunday morning at Bohart Ranch.
Seniors Sawyer Kesselheim and Cambria McDermott each paced their respective Nordic teams and helped the Montana State ski team move from fifth to fourth place in the MSU Invitational, Sunday morning at Bohart Ranch.
Kesselheim, a Bozeman product, used his familiarity with the Bohart Ranch course to reach the podium, finishing third overall in the 10-kilometer freestyle race in a time of 29:28.4.
Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Forrest Mahlen, 14th, 30:40.8, and Karsten Hokanson, 15th, 30:47.7. The race was Mahlen's first of the season for the Bobcats.
Erik Axelsson, 21st, 31:37.2, Noah Andersen, 27th, 32:25.8, and Martin Muan, 30th, 32:45.9 completed the MSU contingent.
Colorado's Mads Stroem won the men's freestyle title in a clocking of 28:53.6.
McDermott, a native of Putney, Vermont, tied for sixth place with New Mexico's Eva Severrus in a time of 16:52.7 Each skier received 26 points for their efforts.
Anika Miller, 13th, 17:12.2, and Johanna Taliharm, 15th, 17:18.9, completed MSU's scoring.
Rounding out the day for the Bobcats were Gretchen Burkholder, 24th, 18:22.6, Lina Hultin, 27th, 18:44.8, Olivia Ekblad, 31st, 18:59.2, and Joelle Romo, 33rd, 19:55.2.
Denver's Linn Eriksen won the women's 5k freestyle in 16:08.3.
With three events completed and just the Nordic classic races remaining on Monday at Bohart Ranch, Denver sits atop the team standing with 475 points. The Pioneers are followed by Colorado 470, Utah 452, Montana State 360, New Mexico 330, Alaska-Anchorage 304, Westminster 251, Wyoming 58 and Colorado Mountain College 55.
