Montana State Skiers Add Three to the 2015-16 Roster

“I am extremely excited about this year’s recruits,” Francis said. “After so much success last year, it is exciting to see top caliber ski racers from North America and Europe choose Montana State so we can continue to build toward our ultimate goal of winning an NCAA Championship.”
Three Canadian alpine standouts have joined the Montana State ski team, announced Head Coach Kevin Francis. Jeff Bell of Airdrie, Alberta, Jocelyn McCarthy of Edmonton, Alberta, and Stephanie Gartner of Calgary, Alberta will compete for the Bobcats this winter.
Bell, who ranked among the top 15 in the World Junior Super G and Super Combined events, also posted top 10 Nor-Am Cup results. In addition, he ranked among the top five at the Senior Canadian National Championships, this past season. Bell also represented Canada at the 2014 Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Jasna, Slovakia.
"Jeff comes to Montana State with a huge amount of experience and maturity," Francis said. "He will add to the consistency of the men's team and score many points for us in the coming years."
McCarthy also represented Canada at the 2014 Alpine Junior World Ski Championships and placed third in slalom at the Canadian Championships. McCarthy was also a member of the Canadian Development Team from 2014-15.
"Jocelyn is down-to-earth and easy-going, but there's an intensity to her focus and a strong competitive drive that lurks just beneath the surface," Francis said. "These traits will make her an ideal addition to this team- from a teammate standpoint and results standpoint."
Gartner also brings junior team experience to the Bobcats. From 2013-14, she was a member of the Canadian National Development, before earning a spot on the World Junior Canadian squad last winter.
"Stephanie is a highly motivated, no-nonsense kid who has a lot of experience for her age," Francis said. "She will bring a strong work ethic and a professional attitude to this team."
The trio joins Nikita Norton of Ashland, Oregon, Mia Henry of Calgary, Alberta, and Morten Bakke of Oslo, Norway as part of Francis' 2015 recruiting class.
