Jake Bleskin gives the Cats good depth at quarterback

Offense sharp on Tuesday
Montana State's explosive offense took another step forward in Wednesday's practice session, and Bobcat coach Rob Ash was impressed with the play of the men at the helm.
"Dakota (Prukop) is really looking good," Ash said of his starting quarterback. "He is so particular about wanting to get every play right, every read right. Every minute that he's out here he's focused on trying to get better, trying to correct a mistake and trying to improve on his game. I think it's remarkable what he's doing."
While Prukop has the starting offense running smoothly, Jake Bleskin serves the possibly the most experienced – and best – backup trigger man in the FCS. "I have complete confidence that (Bleskin) could walk out at any moment in any game and be locked in exactly with our offense," Ash said. "It's awesome to have such a veteran at the backup spot."
The result of excellent quarterback play for the ones and twos amounted to a solid day for the offense Wednesday. "I thought the offense looked really good today," Ash said. "They hit the short passing game well, hit a couple deep balls, ran the ball well in the full-contact situation. The only area I felt like we weren't quite as sharp as we need to be was just on the perimeter passing game, with the wide-outs on the corners. I thought the corners won the day today, so we'll have to keep working on that."
THIRD DOWN: The Bobcats worked on third down situations during team periods on Tuesday, and Ash liked what he saw. "I thought the competitive period at the end, the third down period, was good. There were some good plays on both sices. I thought the offense ran the ball extremely well in that period, so we've got to shore that up a little bit with our defense. I thought the defense played well on the perimeter against the pass game. The corners I thought played really well, especially in that third down period. But again, we played with lots of energy, we got a lot done in our team periods that were not live periods, as well. Another pretty good practice."
INJURY REPORT: Junior tight end Austin Barth underwent an appendectomy Tuesday. From MSU coach Rob Ash: "Austin had his appendix removed yesterday. The surgery was yesterday, it went very, very well. He's resting comfortably and he should be on a fast track toward a full recovery. He'll be out for a period of time, anywhere from two to three to four or five weeks. If we have to classify him for the first game he's probably doubtful, then the next games after that we just don't know. We hope he's resting comfortably after emergency surgery, but routine surgery." Safety Demonte King is doubtful for Saturday's scrimmage (toe)… safety Bryson McCabe (ankle), questionable.
