Bobby Daly was a brilliant 'backer on Rob Ash's first couple of MSU squads
For every day of the summer we will look at players who donned the jersey number corresponding to the number of days until the Bobcats open the 2015 season on September 3 against Fort Lewis College. The list of MSU football players by the jersey number is based on preseason rosters. The set of available rosters is complete from 1946-81 and '83-present. Only the 1926-27, 1934, 1937 and 1941 rosters are available in the pre-WWII years. Corrections, additions, or rosters that fill out the set will be welcomed enthusiastically via e-mail at: blamberty@msubobcats.com. Complaints about featured players also welcome, but possibly with less enthusiasm.

Monte Folsom, DL: A reserve defensive lineman at Montana State the past couple years, Monte Folsom welcomes his brother Ben, a freshman quarterback, into the program this year. The opportunity to contribute to a 2015 championship, though, belongs to Monte. He has bulked up to around 300 lbs and increased his strength, draws praise from MSU defensive line coach Bo Beck, and appears poised to contribute positively to a rejuvenated defensive front this year.
Spotlight Player: The summer of 2007 was a whirlwind for Rob Ash, leaving a Drake football program in which he was entrenched, in his home state, and taking over a Montana State program in mid-summer that was undergoing a major transition and transformation of its own. Of the things he remembers clearly, watching a smallish linebacker wearing number 54 on film is high on the list. He remembers the ferocity of his play, the sureness of his tackling, the intensity in his demeanor. And the next thing he remembers is a guy walking through his door, who he initially thought might be a manager or video crew member, introducing himself as Bobby Daly, the linebacker from the game film. The two seasons Bobby Daly logged under Rob Ash were truly outstanding, even if the second was marred by injury. Fresh off a 121-tackle season in 2006, the junior from Helena rang up 136 in 2007, including 15.5 for a loss. He forced two fumbles and broke up four passes. Daly recorded 82 more tackles as a senior, the most in the Big Sky since tackles became an official stat in 2000 and the fourth-most in MSU history. Like his father before him and his brother after, Bobby was an All-America, and also was a team captain.
