Caleb Gillis took advantage of an opportunity this spring
Every day we look at players who donned the jersey number corresponding to the number of days until the Bobcats open the 2015 season on September 3 against Fort Lewis College. The list of MSU football players by the jersey number is based on preseason rosters. The set of available rosters is complete from 1946-81 and '83-present. Only the 1926-27, 1934, 1937 and 1941 rosters are available in the pre-WWII years. Corrections, additions, or rosters that fill out the set will be welcomed enthusiastically via e-mail at: blamberty@msubobcats.com. Complaints about featured players also welcome, but possibly with less enthusiasm.

Caleb Gillis, OL: Boredom was never a problem for Caleb Gillis during the spring. A reserve offensive linemen when drills began in March, Gillis was a beneficiary when injuries hit the O-line early. He took nearly every rep until late in camp when he was injured himself, making tremendous strides. He enters the fall as the second left tackle after seeing limited time in four games as a redshirt freshman last fall.
Spotlight Player: It's not easy to play the offensive line in Division I football, and it's not easy to coach it, either. An early success story in Jason McEndoo's sensational tenure as the school's offensive line coach is Joe Hirst, who Coach Mac inherited as a young redshirt freshman in 2003. Hirst became a long-term starter and two-time second team all-league choice for the Bobcats.
