Soratos Closes Out West Regionals, Advancing to NCAA Finals

Cristian Soratos placed third in his heat and third overall in the 1500 of the NCAA West Regional Prelims in Austin, TX this evening, advancing to the NCAA Championships. Soratos fought a tough race, coming out of the last turn in fifth place and battling to finish in the top three. Soratos will join Heather Demorest, Paige Squire and Sean Ferriter at the nationals championships.
"The race today was very physical," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "The top five guys in the race fought very hard, but came out with some great results. Cristian has the experience from the indoor championships that will help him compete in Eugene."
The senior finished in 3:42.60, .64 seconds behind the leader. The fight for the top was a physical battle, resulting in an exciting finish. Soratos will compete in two weeks in Eugene, OR at the NCAA Champsionships.
Tanner Gambill placed 16th overall in the javelin, throwing a distance of 216-03. Ty Bermes placed 36th with a mark of 198-09.
Dawn Blevins threw for 131-04 in the javelin throw in her first regional appearance as a Cat.
"Dawn will return next year with great experience behind her. She had a great season and will be able to use that next year to build and come back even stronger."
