Bobcat assistant relocates to East Texas for opportunities closer to home
Brandon North, who coached Montana State defensive backs for the past four seasons, has resigned his post to pursue professional opportunities closer to his east Texas home.
North informed Bobcat head coach Rob Ash of his decision this week. "Brandon is an excellent football coach and a very good person," Ash said. "He did tremendous work on the field and in recruiting for our program, and the best tribute to him is the number of friends he made and relationships he built with players, coaches, staff members, and people in our community. I wish Brandon and (his wife) Crystal the very best and I look forward to following his coaching career."
North came to MSU as an assistant secondary coach in 2011, rising to progressively more responsible roles. He worked primarily with the team's safeties, and was part of 36 wins and four post-season games during his time with the Bobcats. MSU led the Big Sky in pass efficiency defense twice, and passing yards allowed once.
After an All-Southland Conference playing career at Stephen F. Austin (1996-2000), including the school's 1999 league title squad, he entered private business. The lure of coaching drew him back to his alma mater in 2007, and he coached there through the 2010 season before joining the Bobcat staff.
North shared secondary coaching duties with Jamie Marshall in recent seasons, and Ash indicated that he plans to move quickly in hiring a coach to fill that role.
