Both cross country teams earned all-academic honors from the USTFCCCA for the 2014 season
The Montana State men's and women's cross country teams received all-academic team honors from the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced earlier this week. The men's team had an average GPA of 3.15, while the women's team averaged 3.59 in the classroom.
The USTFCCCA began this award 23 years ago and since, the women's team has received the honor every year and the men for the last 18. To earn the award, the team must have a GPA of 3.00 and have competed at the regional championships.
The women's team finished tenth at regionals, despite running without one of its top runners who was out with an illness. On the men's side, Jake Turner advanced to the NCAA Championships with a 15th place finish, with the team finishing 12th.
"Our team excelled in the classroom and on the Cross Country course this past season," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "As a program, we are maintaining our reputation with excellence in academics and taking major strides in our running success."
