“We’re pretty excited that we had the top two runs in the second run of the day,” MSU Head Alpine Coach Kevin Francis said. “Our young guys are doing a great job. The snow is a lot different from Montana, so it’s nice to see them figure it out. If we just did a few things different in the first run, we might’ve seen the podium.”
Montana State freshman standout Garret Driller posted the fastest time in the second run of Monday's giant slalom to lift him to a seventh place finish at the University of Colorado Invitational.
In addition, sophomore David Neuhauser notched the second fastest second run to place 12th overall.

Also contributing for the Bobcats was David Owsley, who placed 25th in 2:09.06. Michael Radford and Andrew Kircher both did not finish their opening run of the event.
"We skied extremely well and we continue to build with each race," Francis said. "We know what we need to do and will use this race as motivation as we enter into New Mexico."
Denver's Erik Read won the men's giant slalom title in 2:02.41.
The Bobcat women were paced by veteran Stephanie Irwin, who finished 19th in a two-run clocking of 2:07.71. She was followed by Tenaya Driller, 25th, 2:12.68, and Elizabeth Koprucki, 31st, 2:17.60.
Benedicte Lyche and Kari Hole did not finish their first runs.
On Sunday, Lyche posted a top 10 finish in the slalom placing ninth with a two-run clocking of 1:50.82. She was followed by Irwin, 15th, and Driller 19th.
"Both days were a little different in terms of conditions," Francis said. "We handled the ruts and found the fastest way to get down the hill."
As a team, MSU finished sixth with an eight event total of 408 points. Colorado captured its own meet with 668 points and was followed by Utah 631, Denver 585.5, New Mexico 476, Alaska Anchorage 436, MSU, Westminster 192.5 and Colorado Mountain 46.
The Bobcats will participate in a NCAA giant slalom qualifier on Tuesday, before moving on to the University of New Mexico Invitational Jan. 30 – 31.
