Senior becomes first MSU corner to earn All-America honors since 2001
Deonte Flowers, Montana State's all-conference cornerback, added another honor to his resume this week. The senior from San Diego became an All-America when the College Sporting News named Flowers to its 2014 Fabulous Fifty All-America Team.
A three-year starter for the Cats, Flowers logged 53 tackles this season, including 45 solos. He was among the league leaders with 11 pass breakups, and also picked off one pass. His interception came against UC Davis, and he returned it 38 yards for a touchdown that sealed Montana State's win. He broke up at least one pass in seven of MSU's final 11 games, including two against South Dakota State in his Bobcat finale.
Flowers becomes the first Bobcat defensive back to earn All-America honors since Kane Ioane, currently the program's co-defensive coordinator, did so as a senior safety in 2003. He is the first cornerback at MSU to become an All-America since Joey Thomas in 2001.
