Bobcat Harriers Tabbed Fourth in Big Sky Poll; Ranked in Mountain Region List

“We’re getting excited to start the season,” MSU Head Coach Dale Kennedy said. “We have a lot of people back, but I’m a little surprised with where we are ranked. It shows that the other coaches respect our program.”
The Montana State men's and women's cross country teams were each ranked fourth in the Big Sky Conference Preseason polls, as voted by the league's 12 coaches on Tuesday. In addition, the Bobcat women were listed eighth in the NCAA Mountain Region poll, while the men were 12th.

The Montana State men return three letterwinners in Michael Asay, Jake Turner and Zach Kughn, while the women welcome back Rachel Atwood, Jenette Northey, Christie Schiel and Rachel Sullivan. Asay, a senior from Manhattan redshirted last fall, after earning All-Big Sky Conference honors in 2012.
The Bobcats will be without the services of 2013 Big Sky runner-up Heather Demorest, who has exhausted her cross country eligibility, but will run during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The men's triad of Trevor Polson, Seth Garbett and Cristian Soratos has also used their cross country eligibility. Garbett and Soratos have indoor and outdoor seasons left, while Polson has just the indoor campaign remaining.
Northern Arizona was picked to finish first in both the men's and women's polls. The Bobcats will open its 2014 season hosting the MSU Invitational, Sept. 20.
