MSU without three starters for PSU game
The injury news wasn't good for Bobcat football on Saturday.
Senior running back Shawn Johnson was ruled out against Portland State with an injury suffered last week at Cal Poly. "Shawn tried hard this week," said Bobcat coach Rob Ash. "He worked valiantly. But he just couldn't get ready."
Johnson will have company on the sideline today. Freshman receiver Justin Paige will miss today's game, as will senior safety Eryon Barnett. Tanner Roderick is slated to start for Paige, while Khari Garcia starts at safety for Barnett.
At running back, Anthony Knight and Gunnar Brekke rotate at running back in Johnson's absence. Ash indicated that, while Knight is likely to get the nod on MSU's first offensive snap, he was pleased with the week of practice both had. "Thisis a great opportunity for them both, and they can see that," Ash said. "They are ready to go."

While the matchup between Portland State's highly-touted rush defense and MSU's ground game has received considerable focus, special teams stands as a competlling element of the game. Portland State's punter, Kyle Loomis, and place kicker, Jonathan Gonzales, are among the best in the FCS. MSU has led the nation in team net punting for much of the season.
