Jayshawn Gates leads Bobcats through three-game California swing
The Palo Alto, Calif., product has scored four touchdowns in his first season on the Bobcat varsity (he redshirted last fall). All four of those scores came in the state of California. Gates scored on a four-yard run at Cal Poly Saturday, his first career rushing touchdown. He caught a touchdown pass at Sacramento State, and two at UC Davis.
In its three games in California this year, Montana State averaged 54.3 pionts and 607.3 yards per game. The Bobcats won two of those games. Below is a look at other notes from last week's Cal Poly contest...

BOBCAT NOTES
• Shawn Johnson's 4,096 career all-purpose yards is 83 yards from MSU's career record (4,179, Ryan Johnson).
• Dakota Prukop's 129 rushing yards at Cal Poly made him the 19th player in MSU history – and the first quarterback – to rush for at least 100 yards four times in one season.
• Anthony Knight scored twice on the ground Saturday, and his nine rushing touchdowns this season is one from entering the school's single-season top 10. Dakota Prukop's 11 rushing touchdowns this season is the seventh-best season in school history.
• Montana State has lost eight straight games to Cal Poly after Saturday's 35-27 defeat.
• The Bobcats rushed for at least 270 yards in four straight games, averaging 298.5 in that span. This year's MSU team has three 300-yard rushing games. Among Bobcat teams since 1993, only the 2011 squad posted two 300-yard rushing days. In fact, Rob Ash's eight MSU teams have now gained 300 yards or more rushing nine times, while the previous 15 Bobcat squads combined for five.
• In the last five games, Alex Singleton has averaged 11 tackles per game, and has compiled six tackles-for-loss, three pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble, a quarterback hurry, and a blocked kick.
• Senior tight end Tiai Salanoa has caught at least one pass in each game this season.
• Freshman receiver Jayshawn Gates has scored four touchdowns this season, all in his native California. He has four catches for 180 yards and three touchdowns, along with three rushes for no net yards but one touchdown, in those three games.
• Montana State finished 2-1 in its three games in California this season, averaging 54.3 points and 607.3 yards in those contests.
• The Bobcats continue to lead the FCS in net punting, at 42.7 yards per kick.
