MSU Women Third; Men Fifth at Big Sky Cross Country Championships

Jake Turner, a junior from Lolo, was the only Bobcat to garner all-conference honors after finishing the men’s 8K race in seventh place with a time of 24:24.
Behind a strong 1-2 punch from Rachel Sullivan and Caroline Hardin, the Montana State women's cross country team finished third at the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday afternoon.
Sullivan, a junior from Boise, Idaho placed 12th overall, covering the five-kilometer course in 17:39. Hardin, who had been MSU's top runner heading into the meet, finished 17th in a clocking of 17:48.
Rounding out Montana State's top five scorers were Keely West, 24th, 17:55; Jenette Northey, 33rd, 18:09; and Louisa Serpe, 36th, 18:14.
Also finishing were Rachel Atwood, 41st, 18:17; and Michelle Cline, 52nd, 18:31.
Northern Arizona won the women's title with 61 points. The Lumberjacks were followed by Weber State 80, MSU 122, Eastern Washington 136, Idaho State 158, Portland State 172, Southern Utah 192, Montana 202, Sacramento State 204, Northern Colorado 219, Idaho 220 and North Dakota 243.

He was followed by Mike Asay, 16th, 25:02; Zach Kughn, 35th, 25:54; Matt Gotta, 44th, 26:13; Daniel Nicolls, 45th, 26:13; Ethan Wilhelm, 46th, 26:17; and Matthew Tex, 50th, 26:26.
National and Big Sky Conference power NAU also captured the men's crown with 24 points. Northern Arizona was followed by Southern Utah 66, Weber State 67, Idaho 143, MSU 147, Eastern Washington 151, Montana 204, North Dakota 204, Idaho State 244, Portland State 278, Sacramento State 282 and Northern Colorado 351.
The Bobcats will compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, Nov. 14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
