Shawn Gone is nearing the school all-purpose yards record
It hasn't taken Dakota Prukop long to begin re-writing Montana State's record book. And in 2014, he's not alone.
Six games into his starting career at Montana State, the Bobcats' sophomore quarterback has already set school records for touchdown passes in a game (five, shared with four others) and total touchdowns by a quarterback in a game (eight combined rushing and passing). He is one rushing touchdown and two passing touchdowns from the school's top 10 on those lists.
Lest one believes it's a matter of context or a fluky game or whatever, Prukop's legacy is almost even more indelible. He is 1,800 yards from MSU's top 10 career total offense list, and is 1,700 yards from MSU's top 10 passing chart. The passing career list may be a stretch this season, but the total offense list is not. If he duplicates his touchdown pass total from the first half of the season for the next six games, he would be in MSU's career top 10 on that chart.
Senior running back Shawn Johnson also continues his assault on the Bobcat records list. He is just under 500 all-purpose yards from Ryan Johnson's career school record of 4,179 (Johnson has 3,682).
Befitting a team with such individual weapons, MSU has logged two of the team's top five total offense games in school history this season. The 652 yards against Black Hills State is fourth at MSU all-time, while the 619 yards last week at Sacramento State is fifth.
