Scott Jurgens, who has served as Director of Marketing at East Carolina University since 2011, has been named the new associate athletics director for marketing/operations at Montana State University, announced Bobcat Athletics Director Peter Fields.
Jurgens, who has held similar positions at Princeton, Ohio State, Idaho State and Boise State, was responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans for men's basketball and women's volleyball at ECU as well as serve as on-field coordinator for the Pirate football team that recently captured the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl over Ohio University.
A 2006 graduate of Boise State, Jurgens also implemented the ECU student rewards program, 'Plunder Points,' and oversaw and managed the social media arm for athletic marketing and ticketing. In addition, he supervised interns and volunteer staff at athletic events, assisted in ECU's brand management efforts and served on the East Carolina University Athletics Strategic Planning Sub-Committee for Operations, Organization and Management.
"I am excited to be at Montana State and I'm looking forward to becoming a member of the Bobcat community," Jurgens said. "I would like to thank Peter Fields and the committee for giving me this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to jumping in with both feet.
"My marketing philosophy is to find the right balance between strong media campaigns, an innovative social media presence, grass roots marketing and top notch game atmosphere and fan experience," Jurgens added. "Montana State has a passionate fan base and a great brand which makes this opportunity very attractive. I'm certainly looking forward to working with a great team of administrators and coaches to enhance the student-athlete and fan experiences and continue the growth of Bobcat Athletics. It is a great time to be a Bobcat and I honored to be a part of that."
At Princeton, he was the external relations contact for Tiger athletics for four seasons and was responsible for the authorizing and execution of marketing plans and budgets for five revenue sports as well as other selected sports throughout the department. He also coordinated timelines, in-game promotions, giveaways, game scripts, video board production and music at select athletic events. Jurgens also served as the lead liaison representing athletics for the band, cheer, mascot, student and campus organizations. In addition, he also implemented a sales plan for season, individual and group ticket sales.
"We're excited to have Scott Jurgens become part of the Bobcat athletic department," Fields said. "He brings a wealth of marketing experience from a very diverse background."
Jurgens served a one-year stint as Marketing Coordinator at Ohio State, working primarily with women's volleyball, women's ice hockey and baseball. He also held assistant marketing/promotions positions at Idaho State and Boise State.
Jurgens will begin his duties at MSU in mid-January.
