The Montana State women’s Nordic ski team paced the Bobcats in the opening day of the MSU Invitational, Saturday afternoon at Bohart Ranch and Big Sky Ski Resort.

The Montana State women's Nordic ski team paced the Bobcats in the opening day of the MSU Invitational, Saturday afternoon at Bohart Ranch and Big Sky Ski Resort.

MSU received a trio of top ten finishes in the women's five-kilometer classic race as Jessica Yeaton, Kate Backstrum and Annie Liotta placed sixth, seventh and tenth, respectively. Yeaton, a senior from Anchorage, Alaska, completed the course in 17:42.4.

As a squad, the Bobcat women recorded 78 points, finishing second to Denver at 108.

The MSU men were led by Forrest Mahlen, who finished 17^th in 33:31.7.

Kelly McBroom had another strong outing for the MSU alpine contingent, placing ninth in the giant slalom in a clocking of 1:59.94. She was followed in MSU's top three by Marissa Riopelle, 12^th, and Emily Danza, 17^th.

David Neuhauser paced the Bobcat men's team finishing 24^th overall in a two-run time of 1:59.90. He was followed by Ryan McConnell, 27^th, and David Owsley, 30^th.

DU holds a sizeable lead after the opening day with 391 points. The Pioneers are followed by New Mexico 271, Utah 271, Colorado 250.5, Alaska-Anchorage 219, MSU 213, Westminster 11.5, Wyoming 69, and Colorado Mountain College 34.

The MSU Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the Nordic freestyle and alpine slalom events.
