Gonzaga used a decisive 23-11 advantage in blocking to pullout a 24-26, 25-13, 28-30, 25-18, 15-6 victory over Montana State in the 15th Bobcat Classic, Friday night in MSU's home opener.

In a roller-coaster match that neither team could control, it was Gonzaga (3-4) who closed out the final two sets hitting a combined .250 from the field, while Montana State (1-8) faltered with a .000 attack mark.

"We continue to struggle with our consistency from match-to-match," said MSU second-year head coach Kyle Weindel. "Our inexperience comes out and we get ultra conservative with our play. If we continue to not be aggressive, we'll see the some type of results."

The Bobcats were led by its two freshmen outside hitters, as Kennadie Clute and Loni Kreun recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Clute recorded her ninth straight double-digit kill match. Sophomore middle blocker Natalee Godfrey finished with eight kills and matched a career-high nine blocks.

Kreun, a native of Davis, Calf., also notched her second double-double of the season with 10 digs. Overall, senior libero Nicole Baker guided MSU defensively with 24 digs, while Kasey Schlatter added 11 saves.

The Bulldogs were paced by Savannah Blinn with 18 kills and six blocks, while McKayla Ferris recorded 13 kills and 12 digs.

In the opening match of the Bobcat Classic, South Dakota defeated Akron 3-0.

Montana State will face Akron at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, followed by South Dakota at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
